Scholars

Our Scholars programme is relevant for any student who wishes to apply to a competitive university, a competitive course or a much sought-after higher or degree level apprenticeship. These universities will include Oxford and Cambridge and ‘Russell Group’ universities and competitive courses include medicine or medicine-based courses, and veterinary medicine. Where universities require separate entrance exams, subject staff and the scholars programme will support students.  These courses generally require GCSE grades of 7/8/9 and Advanced Level grades of A/A*. These sessions are delivered through a bespoke tutor programme, alongside countless additional opportunities to take part in super-curricular enrichment.

Super-Curricular Opportunities

All Bewdley Sixth Form students will receive a log-in to ‘My Super Curricular’. This is a web platform that contains a wealth of quality academic resources and recommendations that will allow students to extend their knowledge and nurture their intellectual curiosity. They will have access to thousands of book recommendations, online courses, publications, links to useful websites, podcasts, videos, work experiences, competitions, university events and more all in one place.

Universities now see super curricular as a compulsory element of the admissions process. Those actively extending their knowledge stand out amongst other applicants.

Students will also be able to continue to use Unifrog to support their next steps into higher education or employment.  Unifrog brings together all of the available information into one comprehensive, user-friendly platform that helps students make the best choices, and submit the strongest applications.  They partner with universities and employers to further support students to be successful.

Medical Pathway

The Medical Pathway is offered to aspiring medics and for any students interested in a medically related career. These careers are extremely competitive so the programme will enable our students to stand out from the crowd. We have a close relationship with lots of medical organisations who support our programme including The Bewdley Medical Centre and the Air Ambulance. We have regular guest speakers in from a range of different areas in the NHS and workshops providing hands on experience of medical procedures and first aid. The programme also helps students to understand the types of work experience required and find suitable placements. All of these opportunities enable students to make an informed decision about whether this is the career path they wish to follow as well as enabling them to produce an excellent application for their chosen career. We also provide students with support and guidance for preparing for their UCAT and BMAT together with medical interview preparation.

Music

Music students are invited to take part in Sixth Form and local performance opportunities such as Hopfest (Family Music Festival), Wyre Forest Young Musician of the Year, performance slots and St. George’s Hall, Bewdley as well as wider authority events such as Youth Makes Music, Rush Hour Recitals and, take part in a music tour abroad to Germany. Students are encouraged to form their own bands and will have priority rehearsal facilities.

Facilities and Dress Code

In our Sixth Form Centre students have access to modern facilities including a designated study room, lecture theatre and seminar rooms. Small class sizes and specialist Sixth Form teachers ensure that academic standards remain high and students have high expectations of themselves.

Sixth Form students at Bewdley are leaders and role models within our school community. You will act as positive role models to younger students and your appearance should reflect this. In addition, you will often find yourself in a position of representing our School in the local community and to visitors from other schools and Industry. The dress code for Bewdley Sixth Form Students is based on “Choice with Responsibility”. The Bewdley School is a place of work and therefore you are likely to wear different clothing than when you are at home or out socialising. We respect your right to dress individually, as long as, the overall effect is smart and professional. We ask that there are no offensive slogans on any clothes and that you are appropriately covered. If staff feel that student clothing is inappropriate, they may be asked to go home and change.
