Year 7 Mathematics Course Modules

  • Year 7 Number

We recap and then build fluency of the numeracy work taught at primary school. The aim is to ensure that all students have mastered these skills and can apply them to solve problems. Topics include: – 4 Rules of Arithmetic, Negative Numbers, Powers and Roots, Place Value and Order of Operations, Factors, Multiples and Primes. At the end of each topic there is a topic test, the pass mark for which is 80%.

All Year 7 Students are set a weekly homework. For the first half term in Year 7, this consists of Times Tables practice to further develop their fluency in this important skill, as well as an on-line quiz using the Dr Frost Maths platform. From November onwards, most students do more on the Dr Frost Maths platform and stop the weekly Times Table practice. The DFM (Dr Frost Maths) work at this point consists of 30 questions, 10 on the current week’s work, 10 on work from the previous month and 10 on checking the understanding of prerequisite concepts for forthcoming topics. All questions have explanatory worked examples attached so if a student has missed lessons/not fully understood the concept being taught, there is an opportunity to redress this.
