  • Education with theory and methods

    Taught in Year 12 students will study a range of research methods used in sociological research and learn how to apply this to areas of sociology. The Education unit considers the role and purpose of education, the differing achievement of various social groups and the reasons for those differences. Educational policies will also be examined.

    The module is examined at the end of year 13.

  • Crime and Deviance with theory and methods

    Taught in Year 13, further study of research methods and the theoretical perspectives associated with sociology. The topic of crime and deviance is studied, looking at why crime happens, who is involved and why. Patterns and trends of crime, global crime and crime control, prevention, and punishment.

    This module is examined at the end of Year 13.

  • Families and Households

    This topic is taught in Year 12 and involves investigating different types of families and households, how legislation and policies affect families and households. Changing patterns of family life, gender roles, the nature of childhood and demographics are also included in this unit.

    The module is examined at the end of Year 13.

  • Beliefs in Society

    A wide range of religions and beliefs are investigated, their significance in the contemporary world is discussed. Students will also consider religious organisations and New Age movements.

    This module is examined at the end of Year 13.
