Year 7 Art Textiles: Textile Design Course Modules


  • Year 7 The Natural World and Environment: Textile Design

    During this module students reflect upon their research into the work of William Morris and design and produce several pieces of textile work connecting their own ideas with his style. Students will learn a variety of Textile processes including:

    LAYERED PRINTING TECHNIQUES, MONOPRINTING, HAND EMBROIDERY, EMBELLISHMENT and PATTERN

  • Year 8 Identity and Self: Textile Design

    During this module students learn how to use and manipulate a variety of textile processes and techniques in order to experiment with and develop their own ideas, creating links with their artist research and drawings developed within their ‘Identity and Self’ project.

    Students be afforded the opportunity to learn a variety of Textile processes including:

    APPLIQUE, REVERSE APPLIQUE, LAYERING, DYING, EMBELLISHMENT  and CONSTRUCTION TECHNQUES

Year 9 Textile Design Course Modules


  • Edexcel: Year 9 GCSE Foundation – Mini personal project

    Students begin with RESEARCHING the work of personally chosen textile artist, learning to analyse work and use this to inform their ideas (UNDERSTANDING) alongside Observational DRAWING. They then learn and EXPERIMENT with a select range of techniques and use this to develop creative DESIGN IDEAS (PREPARATION). Projects culminate in the development of a FINAL OUTCOME (PRODUCT).

  • Edexcel: Year 9 The building blocks of Textile Design – Textile Processes and techniques

    Students begin their GCSE personal portfolios working on personalised projects focusing on knowledge and skills needed for success at GCSE. Students practice and learn and variety of textile techniques and learn to become proficient when using a sewing machine.

    Alongside this student will research the work of textile artists and fashion designers. They study their careers and bodies of work and learn how to critically analyse and evaluate works of art and develop justified and considered opinions. They explore artists’ ideas and intentions and explore working in their style in order to inspire their own creative idea
